As part of our work in supporting people with mobility difficulties we have set up two Loans Services. Their object is to give people greater freedom‚ despite their mobility limitations‚ to allow them to get more fun out of life‚ and sometimes just to do the basic everyday things that others may take for granted.
This service is designed to give people greater freedom at home. Through it we can offer people a scooter or wheelchair to have at home so that they can get out and about as easily as possible. Our range of equipment is much like that which is found in our Chesterfield service – a range of main–stream scooters and wheelchairs that will cover most general applications (sorry – we are unable to support vigorous off–roading!).
We operate a Waiting List for this service but currently there are scooters available for instant loan. Loan is on a monthly basis‚ at a cost of £40 per month‚ payable in advance‚ but with a minimum commitment of 3 months. Invoices are sent out each month.
As part of the service we will maintain the equipment in good order‚ carrying out all necessary repairs and servicing‚ changing batteries when needed‚ and repairing up to three punctures in a year. The user’s commitment is to keep the equipment clean and in good order‚ to ensure its security (it needs to be kept in the house‚ or a garage‚ or a secure shed) and to get maximum enjoyment out of its use.

This loan service is slightly different from the one above. There is no minimum term of use‚ and the equipment tends to be rather smaller. This is because the service is designed to help people to get the most out of their leisure time and holidays.
We have a number of scooters‚ all of which should be able to go into a car boot. This is a requirement of many people going away on holiday‚ though it must be remembered that scooters and wheelchair do take up quite a lot of space‚ and that not all cars are suitable for such equipment. However‚ smaller scooters have another trade–off that helps with their portability – they tend to use smaller batteries (and so have a shorter range) and to carry lighter loads.
Our staff will know which scooters will serve your purposes effectively‚ and give advice about those most likely to be suitable for your particular purposes. Please ask them because they will be pleased to help.
Going abroad is not a problem with this service. Many of our scooters and wheelchairs have had holidays in exotic places like Tenerife and Malta‚ and some have even been on cruises! Short Term Loans can also support people visiting the Chesterfield Area on holiday‚ staying with families‚ or perhaps visiting places like Centre Parcs just outside nearby Edwinstowe. We can offer a delivery service for this kind of loan (for a small charge based on distance)‚ so not having a car of your own needn’t be a barrier.
What is important to remember is that advance booking for this service is essential. The sooner you can book the more likely you are to have the equipment of your choice.
