We believe that Shopmobility is about more than just shopping. We believe that it should be a support service that will allow mobility–impaired people access to all facilities‚ and will help them to have a greater quality of life. Leisure is important and so we have created our Outdoor Leisure Services.
These services are at 4 separate sites around Chesterfield and are run in conjunction with the site operators‚ to whom we extend our very grateful thanks. What is most important about all the services is that the operators have actively encouraged us to set up the services‚ because they want their operations to be as accessible as possible to everyone.
At each of our sites we keep a 4 wheeled scooter. Most of them are Rascals‚ which are rugged and have a good weight–carrying capacity. In this way we hope to cater for the needs of as many people as possible. As with all our other outlets new membership and training are available to anyone who has not used the service before. New users should take two forms of identification with them when they go. Advance booking is very much recommended.
You will be able enjoy the historic and picturesque surroundings. The museum building and toilet are fully accessible. All paths around the site are accessible by scooter.

So much has been achieved along the canal side that a visit here is a must for anyone. Take the minor road off the Tesco roundabout on the A61 to reach the visitor centre at the side of Tapton Lock. Here you can start your exploration in one of two directions – towards the town and Canal Wharf‚ or towards Brimington and Staveley. Whichever direction you take there are places of interest‚ picnic sites and wayside seats for your enjoyment. Book at:
Tapton Lock Visitor Centre on 01246 - 551035
Renishaw Hall has been the home of the Sitwell family for many years and they are pleased to be able to share the house and Italianate gardens with the public. Our scooter and a wheelchair will help visitors enjoy all the long–established features of the gardens as well as the more recent Nature Trail and new pathways to more rarely seen parts. Ramps will help you up and down the steps and a leaflet available at the Hall will give full details of the best routes to take. Booking is through:
Renishaw Hall on 01246 - 432310
Opening Times for our Outdoor Leisure Services – please refer to site operator’s opening times. Please help the operators to help you by booking in advance.
